<– That thing is an ipill. No not the ipill you're thinking of, not the anti-pregnancy thing. This thing here is a beauty developed by Philips, still not being manufactured comercially, but you'll see it soon enough. You swallow it. It gives you your meds. Interesting new gadgetry. Interesting idea.
"The iPill releases medicine from its drug reservoir via a microprocessor controlled pump, allowing accurate programmable drug delivery. In addition, the capsule is designed to measure local temperature, and report measurements wirelessly to an external receiver unit."
Can you imagine for some of us folks who take multiple meds a day? Would we be electrocuted if one of our magic electronic pills shorted out and sparked a chain reaction? But what if you have diverticulitis? What if you get constipated? And just how much would an iPill cost? Two arms and one leg, I’m betting. At least, for those of us of the working poor uninsured masses. Well at the prototype stage, its around $1000, which would significantly come down if the concept becomes popular.
I can’t wait til the ePill comes out and we just log in to get our meds. It can’t be that far away. I’m all about being ready for that one.
